The reason that they wear so much make up on TV is that without it, because of all the lights needed for a TV show, they would look really really pale. Its the same for theatre shows as I used to do them and without tons of make up I looked ill :-). Not sure how long it takes now though to apply all that make up, but must take a good hour!
