I read that Beyonce and Lady Gaga had to start their hair and makeup the night before to film Video Phone.

The reason that they wear so much make up on TV is that without it, because of all the lights needed for a TV show, they would look really really pale. Its the same for theatre shows as I used to do them and without tons of make up I looked ill . Not sure how long it takes now though to apply all that make up, but must take a good hour!
